Linda's recent work has focused on the flower painting - reinventing it for a modern audience. This work uses strong colours, interesting compositions, and the images flow off the canvas onto the canvas sides.
Linda has had an interesting love/hate relationship with flowers and gardening. Her family owned a nursery and she spent her early years at the nursery enjoying play amongst the flowers. As a teenager she worked on the nursery and equated tending plants with hard work - she rejected gardening and flowers at that time! Now she has come back to gardens and has a new enthusiasm: she is an RHS member, attends Chelsea and revels in the colour and beauty of her own garden. This love shines through in her representation of all that is striking and beautiful in gardens. Commissions are welcome: Linda loves to create artwork for a special occasion based on an individual's requirements. Linda is also a keen print maker and works on evocative landscape subjects, often in pastel. Shown below are examples of Linda's work in a variety of media and subjects. A solo show of landscapes in pastel took place at the Plough in Great Torrington 2nd-29th March 2009. Linda has only been working on sgraffito works in the last few years, and sees it as a way to produce striking graphic images, similar to her printmaking. One of the great appeals of the medium is the way you can produce very bold and stylised works, with a very elemental technique. The surface is a prepared board with an india ink surface over a white ground. The images are created by scratching through the surface. The works here are all trees, a long-time obsession of hers. For her trees evoke the very essence of place, are landmarks and show the action of wind and rain on their form. |
