Linda Hajdukiewicz - Artist's Profile

Linda Hajdukiewicz is an artist who likes to experiment and works in a variety of media and subject matter. Linda began her art education as an art historian and was a contributor to the Handbook of Modern British Painting 1900-1980 (Edited by Alan Windsor - Scolar Press, 1992). She has also been a commercial greetings card designer. Recently she has spent time developing her fine art and exhibits widely at venues throughout the South West including: Broomhill Art Hotel & Sculpture Gardens; RHS Rosemoor; The Burton Art Gallery; West Gallery. A major one-woman show of her work was held at the Queen's Theatre Gallery in July 2006 and she had a solo show at the The Plough Arts Centre in 2009. Linda was a former Chair of leading arts organisation, North Devon Arts and was elected member of Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society in 2007. She was the Coordinator of Devon Open Studios, the county-wide open studios event, for four years.

Sgraffito Work

Linda has only been working on sgraffito works in the last few years, and sees it as a way to produce striking graphic images, similar to her printmaking. One of the great appeals of the medium is the way you can produce very bold and stylised works, with a very elemental technique. The surface is a prepared board with an india ink surface over a white ground. The images are created by scratching through the surface. The works here are all trees, a long-time obsession of hers. For her trees evoke the very essence of place, are landmarks and show the action of wind and rain on their form.

Flower Paintings

Linda has had an interesting love/hate relationship with flowers and gardening. Her family owned a nursery and she spent her early years at the nursery enjoying play amongst the flowers. As a teenager she worked on the nursery and equated tending plants with hard work - she rejected gardening and flowers at that time! Now she has come back to gardens and has a new enthusiasm. This love shines through in her representation of all that is striking and beautiful in gardens. Commissions are welcome: Linda loves to create artwork for a special occasion based on an individual's requirements.

Pastels and Prints

Linda is also a keen print maker and works on evocative landscape subjects, often in pastel. Shown below are examples of Linda's work in a variety of media and subjects. A solo show of landscapes in pastel took place at the Plough in Great Torrington 2nd-29th March 2009.
